I'll come back to these. I'm teaching Short Stories and Flash Fiction AND Medicine in Literature this summer. I have completely free reign over the curriculum and materials. It's intoxicating.

  2. Short Stories: Angela Carter, E.B. White (maybe those are just essays). Medicine in Lit: stuff about midwives/alternative medicine in literature? Cool options!

    1. Yes-- there are a few good works of fiction that deal with midwives!

  3. Being pretty sure the genre of short story existed before 1960 you might consider Ambrose Bierce, O. Henry, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Earnest Hemingway.

    1. Well, I ended up titling the course Contemporary Short Fiction, so. But that doesn't mean I can't include a few from the 60s. Contemporary is traditionally 1960 on, I think.
